Sustainable Energy Teaching Kit

Paint the Future Green

Fostering the right behaviors among future generations is undoubtedly one of the main tasks of all educators. Shaping an attitude of respect for the natural environment must find a place on teachers’ to-do lists. Students learn about the concepts and phenomena that surround them every day through hands-on projects, developing an understanding of how much impact they have on the environment.

What is a typical lesson like?

The kit is compatible with the core curriculum. One of its general goals is to develop an attitude of respect for the natural environment in children and adolescents, as well as spread knowledge about the principles of sustainable development, and motivate them to take action to protect the environment and develop a passion for ecology.

Some of the topics covered within the lesson plans are waste segregation, energy-saving, ecological transport, green cities, and recycling.

Duration of one lesson: 45 minutes.

Example lesson: Waste segregation

The teacher divides students into two groups and gives each student 5 empty packagings and a set of stationery materials. The task is to build recycling bins for waste segregation out of the packaging they brought. Please make sure they use location-specific color coding. While children are building their trash cans, the teacher distributes paper, glass, and plastic waste.

Having built the dumpsters, children take turns to draw one color from the bag and program the robot to arrive at the location of the desired piece of debris. Then, they collect it and toss it into the corresponding garbage can. The teacher chooses the interface appropriate for the lesson. In younger groups, children can use the simple Joystick-like interface; in older, they can use advanced programming interfaces.

Example lesson: Drawing leaves

The teacher divides students into groups and hands out a plant atlas to each group. The task is to find in their atlases the tress written on the classroom board. Each student receives a printed-out worksheet. The task is to fill out the table. Ask children to draw an appropriate leaf outline for each tree listed by looking at the illustrations in the atlas. Having discussed the table, move on to the next exercise – Photon draws leaves. The teacher prepares the Photon dry-erase mat and attaches the provided marker holder to the back of the robot. Then, the teacher starts the ready-made program – the robot will draw several selected leaves. Students are to guess the names of the trees.

Engage your students in classes that shape the attitude of respect for the natural environment.

Environmental awareness

The exercises in this kit explain how to effectively and responsibly take care of the environment.

The proper practices of caring

The activities will show students that simple, everyday activities can have an impact on the environment.

The use of theory in practice

Students use the acquired knowledge in everyday life, observing how it affects our planet.

Ability to express your own opinion

The majority of classes start with an open discussion. That way, students learn to express their opinions.

Dedicated app

The kit includes a dedicated App, which facilitates the work of teachers and allows to control the robot through several interfaces tailored to the age and
skills of students.

• Ready-made activities that the teacher can adapt to the group’s needs in a few simple steps. With that, the robot will divide students into groups or indicate
the participant of the next exercise.

• Diverse interfaces allow you to work with both older and younger preschoolers. You can also adjust the difficulty level of the exercises to the child’s ability.

• Two account types – Educator and Student. Your account gives you access to all the features of the App, while a simplified Student Account can be used for
controlling the robot’s actions.

• Additional lesson plans and a robot handbook.

Where to download the app?
